Reporting means

With ANCOVA, do we report the raw or adjusted means of the fixed factor?

To report results when you have covariated out an extraneous variable, do you report it as performing a one-way ANOVA and then describe the covariate as the extraneous variable or do you report performing an ANCOVA with a description of the IV, DV and covariate? Do you report the new mean for the covariate?

Line Graphs or Bar Graphs Question

In a mixed design, if the repeated measures variable is not time but something else, how do we know when to use a line graph or bar graph?

Some of us were confused re: the part of the question, "which is which in RM design?" Do random factors=participants and fixed factors=time?

We didn't quite get a clear answer from the review session.

We ask you to encourage your students to complete the form for your courses. It is crucial to have a statistically valid number of responses, but more than that, we know that you care about student feedback.

Don't delete that data file!

As the name implies, the data file for the repeated measures assignment is also the data file for the ANCOVA assignment, so don't delete it after finishing your repeated measures homework.

N or n? reporting cell sizes

In the second analysis, I've created a table for the descriptive statistics. However, I'm confused as to whether I should report N or n because of the mixed design. Neither way seems to make much sense in the table. It's the same people over time, but different people in the different groups. Or, should we not report the descriptives in a table at all for something like this?

Writing Workshop

The Writing Center will be offering a writing workshop for students this Friday, February 15 from 1 to 3 pm in Payton 102. The workshop will lead students step by step through the process of writing, from forming a thesis and gathering supporting evidence to organizing paragraphs and editing for common errors. This particular workshop debuted last quarter, and the feedback from those in attendance was very positive.

Please feel free to encourage any or all students to attend. Those who are motivated to write well but lack certain skills will especially benefit. The workshop is free to attend, and a packet of helpful materials is available for $5.

I sent the data file for the repeated measures and ANCOVA homework to the email you have registered with the blog. It was a blank email with the subject "Homework File" and the file attached, so you might want to check your email spam folder.

equal cell size

Hi,

Can i treat the cell size as equal if they are not over 4:1? This related to the use of what types of sums of squares and post hoc comparison.

Your exams are at the front desk. Please go by and look at them before next Wednesday (2/13).

Note that you cannot take them with you: look at your exam, make a note of any questions you might have, and then give your exam back to Emelda.

I have 2 IV's each with 2 Levels (1,2) and need to transform them into 1 IV with 4 levels (1,1), (1,2), (2,1) and (2,2)? In SPSS, what comes after Transform, Compute ?? Thanks!

question about decimal points

If we get a partial eta squared that for example is .001, how do we report? Is scientific notation not used in APA style for example .001 = 1.00 x 10^-3.

FACTORIAL ANOVA HOMEWORK: Checking Assumptions

Do we need to explicitly show checking of assumptions? Or for the purposes of this assignment, are we to assume that all assumptions have been met?

Factorial ANOVA Homework 1.C.

I understand from the notes why cell sizes being equal is important, and I understand why orthogonality (independence, right?) of predictors is important, but I don't know what balanced cells have directly to do with orthogonality. Any clues?
