Independence of Observations

On the homework, for the ANCOVA, since it is a repeated measures design - they test people with a pre-test and then with a post-test, don't we automatically have a violation of the assumption of independence of observations?

Yes, if we were running a repeated-measures ANOVA. However, since the directions state that you should run two SEPARATE oneway ANOVAs, you should decide whether the analyses SEPARATELY meet the assumption of independence of observations.
