normality and independence
Though the hw doesn't seem to explicitly ask to test for the assumptions of normality and independence of observations, is this something we should include?

If you homework does not ask any questions about these 2 assumptions, you don't have to comment on them.
Of course, in real life situation, such as your master project, you have to evaluate whether you data fulfill all of the assumptions or not. You only have to mention the violation and how you fix the violation if your data violate those assumptions. Otherwise, you don't have to mention in the write up at all.

I agree completely with the second paragraph of Grace's post. That is, if assumptions are not violated, you do not have to mention them in the writeup--because they are *assumed*!

I also agree with the first paragraph (you don't have to directly comment on the assumptions separate from the writeup), as long as they aren't violated...and, of course, to know that, you will need to check. And I won't know you checked unless you attach the printouts that show that.
