Interaction effect
Is it necessary to predict an interaction between two variables or is it okay if you pick two that you think will have main effects, but no reason to have an interaction effect?

Your hypothesis is completely up to you. If you run a factorial, you must compute and report the interaction effect, but there is no need to have a hypothesis that such an effect would be significant. (Note, however, that that *is* a hypothesis in itself: No significant interaction between X and Y was expected.)
