In truthers
Can the term "outlier" ever be defined as a point that is not similar in type to other data points? (Like a real number in a data set of whole numbers, for example). Or does "outlier" always mean a point that does not fall within the normal distribution of points?

Outliers are always defined by their position in the distribution. They are outlying the distribution.
