Article Review p value question
In some articles we review the authors may list the p values as p < .05 or p < .01 instead of giving exact p values. In our papers though if we reported them this way it might appear as a APA style mistake when actually it is from the article itself and we can't be more specific. What should we do about this?

Hey Nathaniel,
It's great that you know that specificity in p values is a must! However, since there's no way of knowing the exact p value if the authors didn't list them, report the p values as they appear in the article.
In the article review, you might add a small note to the TA to inform him/her that that is how they appear in the original article.
[For those who are curious: According to the APA publication manual, "the tradition of reporting p values in the form p < .10, p < .05, p < .01, and so forth, was appropriate in a time when only limited tables of critical values were available" (p. 114).]
